9. Hungary officially applied for accession on 31 March 1994. At the time when the parties concluded the PPAs (1995 to 2001), in line with Article 62 of the Europe Agreement Hungary was already required to bring the rules of competition into line with the EC Treaty.

The opinion adopted on 12 March 2008 (published 26 March 2008) [2] by the European Food Safety Authority (hereafter EFSA), concluded, from all evidence provided, that cut flowers of the genetically modified carnation ( Dianthus caryophyllus L., line 123.8.12) are unlikely to have an adverse effect on human and animal health or the environment in the context of its proposed ornamental use.

This is broadly in line with the official deficit targets of 2,4 % of GDP set in the December 2007 update of the stability programme of Portugal and the revised target of 2,2 % of GDP announced by the Portuguese authorities in late March 2008. For 2009, the spring forecasts project, on a no-policy change basis, a government deficit at 2,6 % of GDP.
12. This is broadly in line with the official deficit targets of 2,4 % of GDP set in the December 2007 update of the stability programme of Portugal and the revised target of 2,2 % of GDP announced by the Portuguese authorities in late March 2008.
13. Annex XIV and Protocol 21 were amended by Decision of the EEA Joint Committee No 27/1998 of 27 March 1998 [4], incorporating Council Regulation (EC) No 1310/97 of 30 June 1997, amending Regulation (EEC) No 4064/89, into the Agreement in line with the objective of maintaining a dynamic and homogenous EEA based on common rules and equal conditions on competition.
14. The improved regulatory environment for European statistics should, in particular, respond to the need to minimise the response burden on survey respondents and contribute to the more general objective of a reduction of administrative burdens arising at European level, in line with the Presidency Conclusions of the European Council of 8 and 9 March 2007.
15. In the week of 27 to 31 March 2006 applications were presented to the competent authorities in line with Article 5(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1159/2003 for import licences for a total quantity exceeding a country's delivery obligation quantity of ACP-India preferential sugar determined pursuant to Article 9 of that Regulation.
