- Vitreous grain percentage
- Minimum vitreous grain percentage
- Durum wheat (with a minimum vitreous kernel content of 73 %)
- Part C: Standard method for determining the rate of loss of vitreous aspect of durum wheat,
- Vitreous grains of flint maize are defined as grains meeting two criteria:
- Piebald grains of durum wheat are grains whose kernel cannot be regarded as entirely vitreous.
- For durum wheat, these criteria are specific weight, miscellaneous impurity (Schwarzbesatz) content and vitreous grain content.
- [Man-made vitreous (silicate) fibres with random orientation with alkaline oxide and alkali earth oxide (Na2O+K2O+CaO+MgO+BaO) content greater than 18 % by weight]
- The vitreous grain percentage shall be established by counting in a representative sample of 100 grains the number meeting the criteria referred to in the third subparagraph.
- [Man-made vitreous (silicate) fibres with random orientation with alkaline oxide and alkali earth oxide (Na2O+K2O+CaO+ MgO+BaO) content less or equal to 18 % by weight]
- The analysis methods of the protein content, specific weight and the rate of loss of vitreous aspect of durum wheat (‘mitadinage’) shall be those laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) No 824/2000 [25].
- The reference method for determining the rate of loss of vitreous aspect of durum wheat, currently mentioned in Part IV of Annex I to Regulation (EU) No 1272/2009, is described in Part VIII of the said Annex.
- ‘Mineral wool, with the exception of those specified elsewhere in this Annex; [Man-made vitreous (silicate)fibres with random orientation with alkaline oxide and alkali earth oxide (Na2O + K2O + CaO + MgO + BaO) content greater than 18 % by weight]’;
- The standard methods for the determinations referred to in paragraph 1 shall be those given in Commission Regulation (EU) No 1272/2009 [8].Flint maize is maize of the species Zea mays indurata the grains of which present a dominantly vitreous endosperm (hard or horny texture).
- The biological tests will be carried out on the donor’s serum or plasma; they must not be performed on other fluids or secretions such as the aqueous or vitreous humour unless specifically justified clinically using a validated test for such a fluid.
