These differ slightly in concept and importance according to the regions, and comprise the following components: respecting real-time area closures that have been established upon the detection of cod aggregations; using larger square mesh panels in order to increase whitefish selectivity; taking part in trials for more selective gears; and using only one gear instead of several during a trip.
      13. But the core of the new philosophy is the recognition that only a market led approach will ensure success and continued whitefish processing in Shetland’, which according to the United Kingdom demonstrates that the intent at the time when the investments were made was to ensure that the companies were operating in a manner consistent with their market in order to ensure the long term viability of the companies.
      14. In the area referred in point 6.1 Member States concerned shall, with the aim to identify fishing methods for nephrops that have the lowest impact on whitefish, undertake in 2009 trials and experiments when fishing for nephrops: on a sorting grid in accordance with Appendix 2 to this Annex, and on a square mesh window in accordance with points 1 and 3 of Appendix 5 inserted into the top panel of the codend and terminating no more than 6 m from the codline. Member States concerned shall submit the results of the trials and experiments to the Commission no later than 30 September 2009.
